The Origin (and Expansion) Story of Milk Gone Nuts!
Long before Sara Tacher had a plan of attack, she had an idea for a concept. With cold-pressed juice bars voraciously popping up, she recognized that Miamians had an appetite for healthful foods. Her concept would be rooted in healthful eating, but stray away from being just another ordinary juice bar. She needed something, like a hook, that would differentiate her from the rest. And then it dawned on her—nut milk.
"The building blocks to this idea literally started with an almond, which, in turn, created the Almighty Almond Milk," she reminisces.
But before she put her concept into motion, Tacher had to experiment with ingredients and techniques. She was on the market for a place to test out her products when her husband came to her rescue, offering the back of his Texaco Gas Station as her work space. Hours turned to days, which turned to weeks that Tacher burned the midnight oil trying to perfect her recipes. Some of her earliest customers were those filling up their tanks, getting a car wash, or popping indoors for a grab-and-go snack at her husband’s gas station.
“What better way to get noticed than to offer someone a healthy treat while they are waiting for their car to be detailed,†she says.
Her concept finally opened its doors—aptly named Milk Gone Nuts!—on September 17, 2013. It was (and continues to be) an instant hit. Customers were going nuts over Tacher’s unique recipes that featured various preservative-free, non-dairy nut milks with organic products and fresh ingredients. At last, healthful eaters in Miami could get their sweet treat fix without any guilt. Some of her unsinful treats include signature milque shakes and blends like The Peanut Butter & Jelly Shake with freshly ground peanut butter, berry sauce, frozen banana, and topped with peanuts (it’s at the top of the menu for a reason) and the Chocolate Peanut Butterlicious Shake. Of course, freshly squeezed juices and signature smoothies are on order, but Tacher has since expanded the menu to include breakfast and lunch items, fruit bowls, artisanal fruit pops, quick bites, freshly prepared salads, and more.
With such a booming business, opening a second location and soon-to-open third was a no-brainer. The third location, which will be in Aventura, will act as Tacher’s flagship store. Or, as she likes to call it, her baby.
“I have been waiting five years for my Milk Gone Nuts! vision to be finished and complete. The opening of the Aventura store, or my flagship store if you will, will be the final piece to my concept’s puzzle.â€
